Lagos...The Madness Capital Of Nigeria

Lagos and Abuja are no doubt the two major cities that rock the boat of Nigeria, but they are direct opposites just like Come is the opposite of Go.

Having spent a reasonable amount of time in the two cities, I can categorically tell that they are nothing short of two worlds apart in comparison in almost every aspect - the people, the environment, transportation system, the weather among others.

Overpopulation is the bane of Nigeria's commercial city and every day, at least one person relocates to Lagos from other states.

Lagos, in fact, deserves an award as the rowdiest city in Nigeria (you might be tempted to argue though, but resist that temptation darling).

As for Abuja, the city and its residents (at least most of the ones I have come across) are just heavenly, just a perfect definition of that actually.

If you stay in Lagos and haven't been to the capital city, please include it in your bucket list for 2017. Seriously, there are high chances you will ditch Lagos after the experience.

I was away from Lagos for about one month and I had my sanity all intact, until the very moment I stepped into the ever busy city again.

Everybody in Lagos seems to be basically mad, or how do you explain the reckless blaring of horns, the screams and counter scream at every corner of the state and the fights- Yes, the fights are usually epic!

The moment I stepped into Lagos, I got an instant headache, my head spun like my brain cells had suddenly become spinners.

Jeez! Headache must have been factory fitted in that city.

Right from the park where I eventually picked a bus to my destination, conductors and drivers were heard loudly screaming in different locations concurrently and one might end up getting confused for a minute.

Initially, I intended to stop at the Ojota area of the state and the conductor assured me that he was going through that direction and so he cajoled me into patronizing him only to end up dumping me at one junction and asked me to walk down and take my right and walk down yet again to get to Ojota.

I was not angry o, how could I have possibly been, when everybody in the city was already mad.

I couldn't have possibly added to the long list, but I was so damn pissed that talking would have made my condition at that moment even worse than it initially was.

I asked the conductor for my balance and he boldly retorted 'mi o ni change o' which clearly meant that he did not have any change to give me, yet he had piles of lower denominations of the Naira in his hands.

Apparently, I was too tired to talk, so I resorted to reminding him about my 'change' at intervals so I wouldn't forget it and then he thanks his stars for smiling so widely at him while I nurse anger.

It wouldn't be out of order to tag Lagos a noisy hub because the noise that emanates from the hustles and bustles on the streets is top notch.

Besides, the reckless lifestyle of Lagos residents is something that makes me want to disappear from the state with the same feet I stepped in.

Even the quietest of them all seems to dump their sanity the moment they step into Lagos, else they get bullied.

Is it the usual sight of men standing at every corner to pee and trying so hard to cover their veined junket pumper from the prying eyes of the public, or the rate at which people spit around the road and wait for an innocent person to step on them like they were some red carpet.

Sometimes, I am forced to think that people who live in Lagos are actually handpicked because they usually have a big threshold for all the oddities that happen within the city.

Although, it would look odd for me to point you towards which of the cities that should be a better bet, but I will say it over and again that Abuja has a way of making even the lousiest of humans calm and collected.

If you do not want to lose your sanity, do not go anywhere close to Lagos State.
